This is the 1024px template from Andreas Viklund, one of the biggest names in Open Source template design. This is also my first Blogger powered template, and hopefully only the first of many. If you wish to use 1024px in your own blog, feel free, but first you need to download the zipfile. The rest of the instructions are relatively easy to follow.
First, unzip the file you've just downloaded. Next, create a new post in your blog, click the 'Add Image' icon and upload 'background.gif'. Now write down the url of the image you've just uploaded, which will look something like [http://photos1.blogger.com/...], then save your post as a draft entry.
Second, open 1024px_template.txt in your favorite text editor and find the text 'your.image.url', and replace this with the actual URL your wrote down before. Now highlight the entire contents of this file and paste it into the template edit box. A word of caution though, if you've made any change to your previous theme, please make a backup.
Congratulations, you should now see Andreas' 1024px template on your site. Please feel free to post comments below. You can also visit my regular blog.
Note: This template is not intended to be advanced or cool in any way. It was based on feedback and requests that Andreas got from people who use his other templates. Accessibility, good code quality, search engine friendliness and low file size are important features.

You've done a great job porting this theme. It would be a shame if Blogger users missed out on Andreas' beautiful designs.
Just a few things I've noticed:
- The background image doesn't show up in either Safari or Camino. Is this because they don't support the use of 'url' in the background tag?
- You have a reference to the permanent URL next to the post title tag, yet it doesn't turn the title into a parsed link as you'd expect (the way it does with the post time for instance). On a related note I've never understood what the 'BlogItemUrl' tags are for. If you remove them nothing happens. I expect there's a good explanation that I'm missing.
- Finally, is there a way to add a space between 'Name:' and the actual username inserted from your profile? This seems to be something determined by Blogspot and not the template. It's only a niggly little thing, but the scrunched up effect looks bad IMO.
With a bit of tweaking I managed to get the left side of the background image to appear, but not the right. Also the navigation info is overlayed on top of it rather than to the left as your screenshot shows. Doh!
dreamkatcha, thanks for the comments, I promise I'll get to work on these asap.
I agree that Andreas' themes need to be made available, he's a very talented designer who seems to capture the mood of many bloggers without being too flashy.
I'm still learning about Blogger and I may have slipped up in a couple of places, and for this I apologise. The profile is actually something that I had noticed, and I'll be looking into the designer helpfiles to see if I can add some flair to this container.
Hmm, I've got a screenshot of the template from Snugtech showing me the theme in a Mac using Safari [www.snugtech.com/safaritest] and everything looks totally ok. We might have to do a bit more to identify why it isn't working for you. Are you able to post a screenshot for me to look at?
No need to apologise. You're doing this in your free time so anything you make available is a bonus. :)
Here's a screenshot taken in Safari: http://kookosity.googlepages.com/1024Preview.png
To get the left side of the background image to show up I had to change the CSS in the body section slightly, like this:
background-repeat: top center repeat-y;
Uhhh, I'm an idiot! No wonder the right side isn't putting in an appearance; the image dimensions are 1280 x 1 and my screen resolution is set at 1024 x 768. That said, the template is titled 1024px so I assumed it would fit my setup. So once I edit the image that's one problem solved at least.
Ah, now I see why its been causing you problems. 1024px was designed for simplicity, and the header image followed by a very long title aren't really supported. I'd love to fix these problems for future users but it might take me a couple of days to look at them properly, and I don't have access to a Mac to test any changes I make - BTW, how does your version of the template look in Firefox, IE, or Opera?
Thanks for letting me know how you've fixed the issues you experienced, at least other Safari users will be able to see what sort of problems they might face and then how to fix theme.
